Islands, culture & good journeys
The island edit
Choose Mauritius for a varied trip from one main base. Mix markets, local food and inland days with time at the beach. Choose Seychelles if moving between islands is part of the pleasure. For a short first trip, I would pick Mauritius and keep the plan simple.

October is my first choice for a mixed trip to Mauritius, with beach time, walks and local food. May is a good second choice. Choose your coast and daily plans with care. Check the forecast before you leave. No month promises clear skies.

Start with Viator to build a shortlist of Mauritius tours. Then check the same trip on GetYourGuide and the tour operator's own site. Book the option with the clearest terms and best total price. Neither platform wins every time.

For a first taste of local culture, start with Taste Buddies and its Port Louis food walks. Add a southwest day for landscapes or a guided Le Morne walk if you want a challenge. Choose an Île aux Cerfs boat trip when time on the water matters most.
